3Days 2Nights Merzouga Desert Tours

The choice between Zagora and Merzouga depends on your preferences and travel plans. Both destinations offer unique experiences in the Sahara Desert.

Zagora:

  • Closer to Marrakech, making it more suitable for shorter trips.
  • Offers beautiful desert landscapes, including palm groves and sand dunes.
  • The famous “Welcome to the Sahara” sign is located here, attracting many tourists.

Merzouga:

  • Known for its iconic sand dunes, including Erg Chebbi, which are among the largest in Morocco.
  • Offers more extensive dunes and a more immersive desert experience.
  • Closer to other attractions like the Todra Gorge and the Dades Valley.

If you have limited time, Zagora is more accessible from Marrakech. However, for a more authentic and iconic Sahara desert experience with towering sand dunes, Merzouga is often favored.

To get to Merzouga desert, you can:

  • Take a domestic flight from Marrakech to Errachidia Airport (ERH), and then arrange transportation to Merzouga (around 1.5 to 2 hours by car).
  • Take a long-distance bus from Marrakech to Merzouga or nearby Rissani, and then take a taxi or hire a private driver to Merzouga.

As of my last update in September 2021, there are no direct commercial flights from Marrakech to Merzouga. The closest airport to Merzouga is Errachidia Airport (ERH), but flights to this airport may not be very frequent or widely available.
